The beginnings of the Church of the Transfiguration
can be found in 1985 when The Rev. Mtr. Winifred and Jim Blair
began a bible study group in their home. This adult education
program, which has became known as The Bible Discovery Class has
met weekly for over 15 years to read and discuss the Old and New
Testaments.
In 1987, with the
permission and encouragement of His Eminence, The Most Rev. Archbishop
John Joseph Rankin, Presiding Bishop of The Holy Catholic Church
of Antioch, Texas Synod, the staff and members of the Church of
the Transfiguration began missionary activities, offering Eucharistic
Liturgy in the rectory of the pastor.
In the spring of 1992, parish officials began the search for a
more suitable facility in which to pursue their ministry by creating
a center for liturgical worship.
After much prayer
and an exhaustive search, the property at 7435 Alabonson, on Houston's
northwest side, was selected. The three-quarters of an acre site
with its 50' x 50' steel covered industrial facility and adjacent
large residence with garage was purchased.
