The Schola Cantoruin

During the construction phase of the building, the Church of the Transfiguration retained the services of a liturgical musical consultant who provided advise on the liturgical design of the building as well as recommendations for acoustical elements. The result is immediately recognized in the ambiance of holiness and the rich quality of the sung Mass.

The Schola Cantorum of Houston, the church's a Capella Quire, rehearses weekly and has presented concerts of ancient chant and liturgical music twice a year since Advent, 1997. A professional musicologist was hired to oversee this phase of its development.

The pastor, Msgra. Winifred Blair and associate pastor, Rev. Mtr. Dorothy Jenkins present regular seminars on various Christian topics for individual personal spiritual development. Topics have included: "The Church and Its History," a study of the church's roots, terms, sacraments, and music; "The Church and Its Creeds," a seven week study of The Nicene Creed; "The Church and You," covering the relevance of the church in our own lives and in the world in which we live and "Return to the Center," a study of the seven deadly sins. Recent subjects have been "The Ten Commandments", their relevance in today's world, and "What is Faith." Other seminars will be announced as available.

Each Advent and Lent a special series is offered for the edification and encouragement of our parishioners.
